The petting zoo here at Ham Lake Campground consists of two llamas, an emu, a couple of ponies, goats and a very lovesick peacock. The peacock fell in love with his image reflected in our truck bumpers and spent a day circling and crying out forlornly. While a peacock sports some of the most flamboyant feathers in the avian world, its cry is loud and pathetic.
After giving up on the truck it spent the next day displaying to the emu, who was sort of interested, and the goats. Greg says the goats just wanted to know if those feathers were edible.
When we tire of watching the farm pets, we keep track of all the wild hatchlings. This wood duck had 12 babies in tow.
