Closing the Loop

Welcome back!

We made it to our spring wedding after suffering the indignity of driving through snow while headed south to Lake Geneva.  I think the mostly leafed out trees and blooming lilacs were even more indignant than us.  And given that the weather choices around the rest of the country were deadly tornadoes, a full-blown blizzard in Kansas, and widespread flooding where we’d just camped, we’ll accept one snowstorm.  The wedding was simply lovely and I got a head start in visiting with my side of the family before we headed back to Minnesota.

We are parked at Ham Lake Campground, a private park north of the Twin Cities, for the next 2 months while we try to complete a dizzying array of “base location” tasks including maintenance, repairs, health care, and a year’s worth of socializing. We already know it is not enough time to cross all the items off the list but our next leg takes us to destinations which can only be seen during the summer.  At least by RV.

The morning sunrise out our bedroom window. Too bad the sandhill cranes started chattering loudly at 4:45 am!

The Twin Cities has many fantastic county campgrounds but most limit your stay to 7 days and they are pricey.  When we arrived at Ham Lake we were a bit anxious about our spot as there is no road to access the campsite, you must drive through someone else’s spot to enter and someone else’s to exit our site.  It has a gorgeous view of the pond on one side and goofy farm animals out the other, but since it does not have full-hookups I am concerned about the effort it will take to dump tanks, etc.

Muskrat and blue-winged teal.

In the meantime we’ve seen more bird species in 2 days than all of last winter in Florida and we find the llama chasing the emu chasing the llama quite entertaining!

The uncommon photo shoot — peacock with goats.

  1. It looks like it could be fun! Except how can they not have site driveways? Where is the pic of the emu chasing?

    1. It was too cold to photograph the big llama chase… but its warmed up now so I’m expecting Greg will be out there chasing the animals around a tree while he videotapes. Stand by!
